Thank you!

I want to thank the many people who provided assistance in my recent campaign for Aquia Supervisor. Your hard work and support was greatly appreciated. I also want to thank all the voters of Stafford who showed their concern for the future of our state and county by voting.

While my campaign fell short of victory, our effort was not in vain. The campaign raised important issues, set a new standard for “clean money” politics, and shined a light on aspects of Stafford’s political life that some in power would rather have remain hidden. All of those are useful in promoting a healthier democratic system.

Congratulations to Mr. Milde and all the winners of Tuesday’s election. With the luxury of a clear 5-2 majority, Republicans on the Board of Supervisors now have the power—and the responsibility—to address the many pressing issues facing the County. I wish the Board success in their endeavors and I hope they use their positions wisely
in caring for the concerns of all citizens.

Finally, I am greatly encouraged by all the many wonderful people I had a chance to meet during the campaign. You are the future of Stafford County and as long as citizens work together, continue to be active, and speak up for what is right, the future of this county will be in good hands.

--R. Paul Ortiz

Ortiz only candidate

to refuse donations from developers, report source of all donations

Campaign finance reports were filed on October 26 for the period ending October 21, 2009. R. Paul Ortiz remains the only candidate to refuse donations from the development industry.

Mr. Ortiz also was the only candidate to report the source for all donations received, regardless of size. And he has kept his promise to post his campaign finance reports (and those of his opponents) on his website.

In contrast, Mr. Ortiz' opponent, incumbent Republican Paul Milde, has failed to report the source of 175 cash donations totaling $15,885. To date, Mr. Milde has received nearly $20,000 in cash donations from the development industry.

More than half of Mr. Milde's cash donations (where the source is known) are from corporations and PACs, including a total of $2,500 in cash from the Realtors PAC of Virginia. Only 11% of Mr. Milde's cash donations (where the source is known) are from individuals living within his district.
